This year the Passion for Knowledge festival will have the participation of Wolfgang Ketterle, awarded the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics for having observed Bose-Einstein condensation in a gas for the first time. This advancement revealed a new state of the matter and opened up new frontiers in quantum physics. During the festival, the general public will have the chance to listen to two talks, one in San Sebastián and the other in Bilbao, offering an excellent opportunity to know first-hand the work of one of the leading figures in modern physics.
Ketterle’s discovery was a milestone in quantum physics and enabled the study of the collective behaviour of atoms at temperatures near absolute zero. Since then, his research has contributed decisively to broadening our knowledge of quantum phenomena with potential applications in quantum technologies.
